Video is everywhere. Despite a lot of content being recorded on smart phones nowadays, careers are built on expertise in video production. Whether they dream of working in Hollywood films, online content creation, or commercial videography for local businesses, our students prepare for such careers through hands-on application of the fundamentals of moving images.
Students learn the entire process: pre-production scriptwriting, on-set video production, audio production for video, and post-production editing. Every hit TV show, major motion picture, or social media star has a crew of video production experts behind them; our students study everything they need to join that team, or create something entirely their own.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Never before have we seen the corporate explosion of jobs in still photography that we are witnessing today. As the world focuses on generating more online content for marketing purposes, employers are seeking well-rounded individuals to create visually stimulating content to use on websites and social media. This activity draws viewers to the company’s website and in turn strengthens their SEO and search rankings, leading to higher sales. This demand for trained photographers is what is fueling the job growth in this exciting and fast-paced field.
RECORDING & SOUND TECHNOLOGY
Quality sound work is the backbone of modern media; when good audio is missing, it greatly diminishes the production quality of any product. As a recording and sound student, you will train with motivated, determined classmates under industry professionals, as you learn to produce excellent music and pristine field audio.
SYLLABUS
AU101: Audio Fundamentals, Recording and Acoustics
- Identify the characteristics of sound waves and how the human ear perceives sound.
- Differentiate between commonly used professional microphones.
- Understand the process of multi-track recording.
- Understand basic electronic signal flow.
AU102: Digital Audio Technology (Including Introduction to MIDI)
- Familiar with the terminology and basic functions of digital audio.
- Able to differentiate between analog and digital audio signals.
- Familiar with the interface of MIDI keyboards and other electronic instruments in various audio and recording situations.
- Able to create and edit basic recordings on a computer.
AU103: Consoles, Live Sound & Classic Recording Techniques
- Selection and use of microphones as applicable to live performances.
- Operation of mixing/monitoring consoles and public address systems as applicable to live performances.
- Perform basic repairs of audio cables used in live sound reinforcement.
AU104: Production and Recording Concepts
- Understand the roles of the technicians, producers and support staff in the recording and live sound reinforcement environments.
- Be able to conduct a basic recording session independently.
- Have a more in-depth understanding of the multi-track recording, mixing and editing process and the use of signal processing devices.
PH101: Photography Fundamentals
- Identify historical events in the development of the photographic process
- Identify iconic images and the photographers who took them
- Understand the features and functions of the digital camera
- Understand the lighting & composition that goes into capturing a professional quality photograph
- Understand the functions of Adobe Lightroom
PH102: Studio Lighting Concepts
- Light and how to obtain desired results using the studio and on-camera flash.
- Lighting patterns and lighting ratios.
- Application of lighting techniques used in a variety of professional photographic jobs.
PH103: Digital Editing & Asset Management
- Understand basic & advanced features of Adobe Photoshop
- Understand the digital photo printing process
PH104: Video Production
- Understand basic & advanced HD video capabilities of the digital camera
- Capture high-quality audio to be used in the video
- Apply the editing functions of Adobe Premiere Pro to both video and audio tracks to produce a professional video.
PH105: Business Communications & Portfolio Development
- Develop a professional resume and cover letter and know how to tailor it to the company.
- Navigate the web to search and apply for job opportunities.
- Understand image licensing and product pricing.
- Produce custom business documents including: sales & order forms, model releases, and contracts.
- Understand the importance of the attorney, tax accountant, and insurance agent.
- Utilize social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, and Youtube.
- Design a professional website.
- Demonstrate professional phone etiquette, open-ended questioning, and appointment scheduling.
- Describe Needs Satisfaction vs. Value Added sales.
